Organization Description
18 Degrees formerly Berkshire Children & Families has a long history of serving Western Massachusetts families, with the well-being of children and families central to our mission. We know that children achieve their highest potential growing up in supportive, healthy families. Partnering with families is the best way to promote healthy, happy children to make strong families and better communities. BCF helps families to recognize and build on their strengths to address challenges. Our work is concentrated in four key areas: early education and care; child and family well-being; intensive foster care and adoption; and Kids 4 Harmony, an intensive classical music program for social change. BCF’s goals are to provide services and supports that transform the lives of children, families and communities by creating opportunities that inspire hope, promote possibilities, and fulfill dreams.

Organization Description
For five decades, nestled in the heart of Holyoke, MA and serving Western MA, Access Care Partners has been a dedicated ally and advocate for older adults and people with disabilities and their caregivers. Our story began in 1974, first as Holyoke/Chicopee Senior Service, then under the banner of WestMass ElderCare, with a mission to enhance lives by empowering individuals to live safely and independently in their homes and communities. After 50 years, we embrace a new chapter in 2025 by becoming Access Care Partners, a name that truly represents our mission and vision. At Access Care Partners, there is no one-size-fits-all solution. Our personalized solutions reflect our care recipients’ and their caregivers’ physical and emotional needs, living conditions, cultural backgrounds, lifestyles, relationships, and communities. Our team navigates the maze of resources to find the services, providers, supports and adaptive equipment that match our care recipients’ needs. If we don’t offer these resources ourselves, we connect our consumers with providers who do. The results are “best fit” solutions that preserve the dignity, independence, and quality of life of older adults and persons with disabilities and chronic conditions and their caregivers. There are many ways to care, and we care to know them all.

A series of mergers throughout the 20th Century culminated in 1992 when four individual organizations came together under the name Behavioral Health Network, Inc. These organizations were the Child Guidance Clinic (Est. 1938), Agawam Counseling Center (Est. 1971), Community Care Mental Health Center (Est. 1968), and Hampden District Mental Health Clinic (Est. 1953). In 2015, BHN merged with The Carson Center in Westfield, extending its reach in service and geography. In 2016, BHN expanded service to Franklin County. Today, BHN provides employment to over 1,800 community members, offering over 70 programs in 80 locations. BHN believes in the Recovery Model where we work to support the potential of each person to recover or improve in their quality of life. We strive to support the inherent strength and dignity of each person. We encourage our clients to be guided by their own process. We understand that recovery includes a sense of hope, developing supportive relationships, a sense of empowerment and inclusion, and developing coping strategies to aid in their personal development.

Since 1982, The Food Bank of Western Massachusetts has been feeding our neighbors in need and leading the community to end hunger. We distribute food to our member agencies in Berkshire, Franklin, Hampden and Hampshire counties. These independent pantries, meal sites and shelters are on the front lines of emergency food assistance in our region, playing a crucial role helping individuals, families, seniors and children. In addition to food distribution, we also serve as an important resource to all of our member agencies to help strengthen the emergency food network, increase their capacity, and develop long-term projects to fight the underlying causes of hunger in our community. The food that we distribute comes from a number of different sources, including the state government (MEFAP), the federal government (TEFAP), local farms, our own Food Bank farm, retail and wholesale food businesses, community organizations, and individual donations. Once received and processed, the food is distributed to our member agencies, or through our own direct-to-client programs (such as our Mobile Food Bank or Brown Bag: Food for Elders). The Food Bank of Western Massachusetts is a proud member of Feeding America, a national network of more than 200 food banks.

In Our Life Together, Jean Vanier spoke to the power of shared lives when he wrote, “[It is] an encounter that liberates new energies, that allow us to break the chains of egotism and open ourselves in love to others.” Everything we do at Nonotuck is centered around, and inspired by, Jean Vanier’s vision of “life sharing.” The vision has evolved for well over a half century. In his humanitarian philosophy on life and in practice through L’Arche communities, he conceived and introduced people to shared homes throughout Europe and North America. Life sharing occurs when two or more people choose to live together in a home based on mutuality of love and respect and on true equality. To get to life sharing, Nonotuck has always had a core set of beliefs we put into practice here at Nonotuck Resource Associates. These beliefs were cemented at our onset, through the hard work and determination of a group of parents who created community opportunities for their children in 1972.

Northeast Center for Youth and Families (NCYF), founded as the Advocate Program in 1972, grew out of a deep commitment to social reform that prevailed in the early 1970’s and dramatically changed society’s treatment of its most disadvantaged members through a shift in public policy towards more compassionate, less restrictive, community-based care. We began with advocacy and foster care for 20 at risk young people. Group homes, a small special education school and an after school program followed. Later, family support services were added to assist families in their homes. NCYF Today Our commitment to youth and families has never wavered and has enabled us to grow and improve our service offerings to include: Upwards of 120 licensed and trained specialized foster homes statewide serve, on average, 105-115 foster kids daily. Our Therapeutic Day Programs, located in Easthampton, Springfield and Westfield serving participants and their families weekly with a variety of educational, recreational and social skill-building activities. Approximately 24 residents are served daily in two residential programs located in Springfield and Indian Orchard. Our family-based services, featuring services such as in-home therapy and therapeutic mentoring, provide support and assistance to over 200 families a year. In 2013, NCYF was granted an outpatient mental health clinic license, thus achieving a longtime strategic goal to provide service continuity for families who previously had to seek new therapists in the community when “graduating” from our programs. Advocating for and assisting our families to achieve their potential has been at the core of our mission for over 40 years. If you and/or your family members are experiencing any level of difficulties or challenges, we encourage you to browse our website and reach out to us for assistance and support. We assure you, you’ll be glad you did!

Pathlight is the first organization in Hampden County founded with a mission to support people with developmental disabilities and their families. Founded in 1952 by five mothers of young children with developmental disabilities, Pathlight was the first organization in Hampden County dedicated to serving individuals with intellectual disabilities. These women shared a dream that their children would live and grow as valued members of their communities, despite the fact that this vision challenged prevalent societal expectations that people with developmental disabilities were best separated from their families and placed in institutions. Together, these mothers and their families joined forces in Western Massachusetts and beyond to create a movement designed to create opportunities, build relationships, and improve lives of those with developmental disabilities. They recruited friends, neighbors, local businesses, and community organizations to help. They were joined by the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Springfield Druggists Association, Holy Name Social Center, Lodge of Elks, Springfield Fire Fighters’ Union, local banks, school superintendents, legislators, and Community United Way, to name just a few.

Organization Description
Tapestry is rooted in the principles of compassionate, confidential, non-judgmental care for all. Founded in 1973 as the Family Planning Council of Western Massachusetts, the agency has grown over the last four decades to be a leading expert on critical public health issues impacting the region. Today, these services include sexual and reproductive health care, syringe access and disposal, overdose prevention and education, overdose reversal medication access and training, and providing new mothers and their children with nutritional education and support, including 24 hour a day breastfeeding help. Tapestry was founded to ensure women and teens have access to high-quality, confidential sexual and reproductive health care, regardless of income, race, gender identity, or sexual orientation. We remain focused on this mission while opening our doors to provide the broader community with much needed and often controversial care like HIV testing, birth control, syringe access, and STD testing and treatment. Our committed staff is highly skilled and well trained to provide a culturally competent, compassionate health care experience for all in our communities who need it. In 1998, after creating new programs like the Northampton needle exchange and regional HIV prevention service sites to help combat the AIDS epidemic, the Family Planning Council changed its name to Tapestry Health. Today, we continue to build on our strong history of HIV prevention work through street outreach and education to at-risk communities. Forty years after we first opened our doors, we remain committed to being at the forefront of our communities’ most urgent public health needs. From our work helping new mothers and their children access healthy foods through our WIC program, to being on the frontlines supporting families in the current devastating opioid crisis, we are a trusted local community health provider able to meet diverse and often complex needs in Western Massachusetts.

Valley Educational Associates, Inc. became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 1982 to provide empowering vocational training and employment services to adults with developmental & intellectual disabilities. We believe every person has a special skill and talent to share with the community. Historically, institutions like the “Belchertown State School for the Feebleminded” closed which created a gap in services for adults with developmental disabilities in Western Massachusetts. Valley Educational Associates started with a small, eight-person program and now serves over 85 individuals in three beautiful program facilities throughout Western Massachusetts. We offer community-based day services (CBDS), vocational program with professional development and a supported employment (SE) structure.
