This workshop will introduce a basic understanding of modifiable risk factors in Alzheimer’s and other diseases with a symptom of dementia. You will become intimately familiar with how physiological changes in the body can be recognized as signs of potential future dementia development and diagnosis. This workshop will introduce a trauma-informed approach to understanding dementia and dementia prevention, by exploring the extent to which the whole body is affected. Additionally, you will learn how through a careful process, the strengths of three systems (breath-mind-body) can be used to minimize or eradicate behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD). Two guiding questions: 1) Could it be that behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD) is the body’s way of working through current or past losses? and 2) Could unmetabolized trauma and grief trapped in the body present as a dementia diagnosis?
